Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Series by the Numbers: ‘Aurora Teagarden,’ ‘Murder, She Baked,’ and more

Danger at every step! The Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel has won fans over with its array of exciting franchises over the years, and the list continues to grow.

Candace Cameron Bure, Lacey Chabert, Alison Sweeney, and Holly Robinson Peete are just a few of the names who have had their own series of movies on the web over the years.

While the characters and locations are different in each franchise, each mystery film series is packed with adventure, a witty and curious protagonist, and plenty of twists and turns.

In fact, Sweeney, who first played baker Hannah Swensen in the Murder, She Baked films, revamped her character for a spin-off franchise that began in August 2021 called the Hannah Swensen Mysteries. The premise is still based on the Joanne Flukes books, but the mysteries are even more intense.

“I am so excited to revisit Hannah Swensen and work again with Cameron [Mathison] and Barbara [Niven] on these hilarious stories that blend romance with intrigue,” the Days of Our Lives star said in a statement to Entertainment. Tonight in May. 2021. “Fans have expressed their love for these characters and it’s exciting to bring them back to life and return to Hannah’s Bakery, where it all began.”

Fans first met Sweeney’s Hannah in 2015’s Murder, She Baked: A Chocolate Chip Cookie Mystery. The amateur detective managed to help solve a murder, start a romance with new detective in town Mike Kingston (Mathison), get caught in a love triangle with dentist Norman Rhodes (Gabriel Hogan) and running his bakery, all in one movie.

While the series wrapped up in 2017, all the characters returned in 2021 for the renewed and continued story of the baker who can’t stay out of trouble no matter how hard she tries.

Sweeney, who is also the star of The Chronicles Mysteries, isn’t the only Hallmark Movies & Mysteries actor known for his hit franchise. Cameron Bure, who was the reigning Queen of Christmas for the main Hallmark Channel network before her departure in 2022, was also a staple on the mystery front for more than five years.

She starred in 17 Aurora Teagarden Mysteries films between 2015 and 2021. In February 2022, she debuted her 18th film in the series with the Full House alum bringing along a familiar face: her daughter Natasha Bure.

“I loved it. I loved every minute of it,” Cameron Bure told Us exclusively in February 2022 about working with her daughter, who plays the younger version of her character, Aurora, on the mystery.

The Christmas Pageant star explained that he had talked about bringing Natasha and Lexa Doig’s daughter, Mia Shanks, into the franchise for a while before it actually happened. (Doig plays Aurora or Ro’s best friend Sally Allison on the series.)

“We thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if we did an Aurora Teagarden [and] did flashbacks and had our own daughters play us as teenagers?'” the California native recalled. “So to make that come true and we were able to do it [as actors] was a lot of fun.”

Cameron Bure, who also shares sons Lev and Maksim with husband Valeri Bure, quipped: “I felt like the biggest mom on stage. I was so proud. He was giving her all kinds of notes and how to act like Aurora and Lexa were doing the same to their daughter. And we were taking photos and then videotaping the screen as they did their scenes. That’s how it was, it was a lot of fun.” (Cameron Bure announced in April 2022 that he would be leaving Hallmark after signing a contract with Great American Media.)
